David Letterman gleefully explains why he gave Conan O'Brien a horse

Not only does David Letterman look sort of like Santa Claus these days, but he's also handing out random presents to people.

Just ask Conan O'Brien. After Letterman retired from The Late Show, he sent the man an actual real-life horse.

The thing is, as Letterman explains to Jimmy Kimmel in the clip above, the horse was actually a joke that backfired -- because O'Brien's wife ended up loving it and decided to keep it for good.

"So now I'm screwed," says Letterman, "because I was counting on them returning the horse and I get money back!"
