The trailer for retro sci-fi thriller Divinity is here, combining deliberately lo-fi special effects, black and white cinematography, and a deluge of tropes that will be familiar to anyone who's seen Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Set in a dystopian world, Divinity takes its title from a revolutionary serum invented by scientist Sterling Pierce (Scott Bakula) in his lifelong mission to invent immortality. Unfortunately, rather than improving society, Divinity has changed the world for the worse, with Pierce's son Jaxxon (Stephen Dorff) now controlling its production. Two brothers (Moises Arias and Jason Genao) thus hatch a plan to kidnap Jaxxon and make him pay.

The film is directed, written, and co-produced by Eddie Alcazar, with Steven Soderbergh also acting as one of the co-producers. It looks like a notable departure from Soderbergh's previous co-produced films such as Ocean's 8 and Pleasantville.

Divinity arrives in NYC theatres on Oct. 13, LA theatres on Oct. 20, and throughout the U.S. on Nov. 3.
