Dua Lipa had a big night at the 2019 Grammy Awards, where she took home two awards, Best Dance Recording and Best New Name.

When she accepted the latter, Dua Lipa used her acceptance speech to call out a remark made in 2018 by Recording Academy president Neil Portnow.

Portnow said in an interview with Variety in 2018 that female musicians should "step up," when responding to criticism that only one female solo artist took home a Grammy in 2018.

"I want to begin [...] by saying how honoured I am to be nominated alongside so many incredible female artists this year," Dua Lipa said, adding "I guess this year we really stepped up."
