"Hi, it's Donald Trump here."

That's what Emma Thompson heard as soon as she picked up the phone.

What followed next is a pretty incredible story.

It was the late 1990s, and Thompson was doing a film called Primary Colors with John Travolta, the British actress said during an interview for Swedish news outlet SVT.

Thompson, who at the time was freshly divorced from Kenneth Branagh, received the call from The Donald while on her trailer on the Universal Studios lot.

After the initial shock, Trump reportedly said: "Yeah, I just you know, I wondered if I could offer you some accommodation in one of my Trump Towers. They’re really comfortable."

The actress recalls being confused by the offer. Once Trump's intentions became clear -- "Well, you know, I think we would get on very well -- maybe we could have dinner sometime," he reportedly said -- Thompson kindly turned down the offer.

“I just said, ‘O.K. well, um, I’ll get back to you. Thank you so much for the offer,’" she said.

But now she kind of regrets it. Just watch it.
