The tagline for The Black Phone — the new Blumhouse horror movie from Sinister writing team C. Robert Cargill and Scott Derrickson, adapted from a Joe Hill short story of the same name — is "Never talk to strangers."

The trailer makes it clear why. Set in a suburban town in the '70s, the movie sees a small boy called Finney (Mason Thames) kidnapped and confined to the basement of a serial killer known only as "The Grabber" (Ethan Hawke, wearing a mask that will surely haunt many nightmares). The twist? After dark, the phone in the basement rings with the calls of The Grabber's previous victims.

Judging from the early reactions from its screening at Fantastic Fest, this one is going to be scaring a lot of people when it hits theatres on Feb. 4.

In the meantime, there's plenty more horror to stream right now.
