Ewan McGregor has chimed in that ridiculous controversy over the "exclusive gay moment" in Beauty and the Beast. And he has a simple but effective message.

McGregor, who plays Lumière in the Disney remake, appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, who asked him about the "little bit of controversy" in the film (at about 5:50, into this clip).

“There’s lots of gay of sex in it…there’s a lot of gay sex in this cartoon,” McGregor replied.

Then he referred to a cinema in Alabama that has cancelled the film, saying: “And I think if you live anywhere near Alabama, you should not go and see this film. What would Jesus think?”

Colbert asked: “There are rumours that LeFou has gay feelings for Gaston.”

McGregor replied, among the cheers: “It’s just like…he’s a gay character. It’s 2017 for f**** sake.”
