Several people formed a human chain to save a woman from a car stuck in gushing waters in Ellicott City, Maryland on Saturday.

In dramatic footage captured by Sara Arditti on YouTube, onlooker Jason Barnes reached out to help her with the aid of several other men, finally managing to pull her free from the relentless deluge of water.

Barnes had already seen his own Main Street business flooded with water, the Washington Post reports. The woman in the car was unwilling to leave the vehicle to get into the fast-moving water until Barnes finally managed to reach the vehicle and lift her to safety.

At least two people were killed in the flash flood, the latest in a trend of heavy rainfall events tied in part to global warming.
