Game of Thrones viewers are all too familiar with seminal battle sequences, but Sunday's Greyjoy faceoff was a visceral, bloody mess. HBO took us behind the scenes in a featurette called "Battling the Silence" which dives into the storm-tossed sea battle.

The scene's main players are Euron (Pilou Asbæk) and Yara (Gemma Whelan). Whelan discusses working with her on-screen uncle who understands the physicality of a battle sequence. Much of the filming involved green screens and was shot in "a car park in Ireland" rather than on a body of water.

As much as the battle sequence was cold and wet, it's also full of raging fires. The stunt coordinator explains that no takes were longer than 10 seconds, but that during those seconds the actors had to embody the wild violence of a riot.

Watch the full featurette above and rewatch "Stormborn" any time on HBO Go or HBO Now.
