If ever advertisers are struggling to think of a concept that sells their product, there is always a brilliant fallback option -- just bung a load of cats together, throw in some internet references and hope for the best.

That's what German supermarket chain Netto Marken-Discount have done with their recent advert "Netto-Katzen" -- which features cats pushing trolleys, cats being scared of cucumbers, and cats talking -- and it seems to have worked a charm. Since it was published on Wednesday, the YouTube video has already wracked up around half a million views.

If we had to guess, we'd say the backing track -- a haunting but catchy cacophony of cats meowing in unison -- probably played a part.
