The long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI trailer has finally arrived, and it looks like it'll be worth the wait.

Set to '80s jam "Love Is A Long Road" by Tom Petty, the 90-second trailer introduces Lucia, GTA's first female protagonist. (Though the first GTA game technically included playable female characters, these pixellated blobs were only differentiated from men by their names and character portraits, and were still referred to as male in-game.)

Judging from the orange fit and barbed wire fence, Lucia appears to have already encountered the wrong side of the law, though it clearly hasn't persuaded her to settle down and get a desk job. She won't be alone in her crime spree either, teaming up with a male partner to wreck havoc across Vice City.

The GTA 6 trailer also includes a shot of a grandma wearing a nightgown and holding a hammer in each hand. She probably isn't a major character, but Duel-Wielding Hammer Granny is still an amazing concept.

While it does look fantastic, it's worth remembering that the graphics in video game trailers aren't always representative of what players will actually see in-game. Still, if Rockstar Games can get even close to what they're showing off today, it will likely make a lot of fans very happy.

GTA 6 is scheduled to arrive in 2025.

UPDATE: Dec. 5, 2023, 5:01 p.m. AEDT This article has been updated to clarify Lucia's status as GTA's first female protagonist.
