Greta Thunberg, teenage climate change activist, was awarded Amnesty International's highest honor, the Ambassador of Conscience Award, on Monday night in D.C. for her work raising awareness around climate change.

In her inspiring acceptance speech, Thunberg explains that though it seems impossible to pull the emergency brake when it comes to climate change, it is necessary. She believes an awakening is occurring. "Even though it is slow, the pace is picking up and the debate is shifting," she says.

Thunberg declares that "activism works." She then encourages everyone to act, reminding the audience that "no one is too small to make a difference."

Thunberg's Fridays for Future movement began in August 2018 when she started skipping school on Fridays to protest outside the Swedish parliament building. Her activism sparked global solidarity among students around the world.

Thunberg ends her speech by urging everyone to join the global climate strikes on Sept. 20 and 27. "And just one last thing: See you on the streets," she says to loud applause.
