Celebrities want you to imagine a world without gun violence

Every day, guns kill 100 Americans on average. In 2016, they were also the 2nd leading cause of death for children and teens in the United States.

June 7 is Gun Violence Awareness Day, which kicks off Wear Orange Weekend, a chance for people around the country to show their support to end gun violence by wearing the color orange.

In a new video for the Wear Orange campaign, celebrities and people who have felt the direct impact of gun violence imagine what it would be like if we lived in a world without it. For example, celebrities like Amy Schumer, Laura Dern, and Daveed Diggs discuss how they would feel safer in public places like movie theaters and classrooms. Julianne Moore and Cleopatra Cowley talk about how those close to them would still be alive.

Wear Orange began after Hadiya Pendelton was shot and killed at the age of 15. After her death, her friends and family wore orange in her honor. Ever since, they have asked people around the country to wear orange to raise awareness about gun violence and, crucially. spark change.

Barack Obama and other prominent figures and organizations have shared the hashtag #WearOrange to show support for putting an end to gun violence.

Be sure to put on your favorite orange shirt and text ORANGE to 644-33 to find a #WearOrange Weekend event near you.
