Hank Azaria addressed the controversy surrounding his voice-acting of Apu on The Late Show on Tuesday.

Azaria talked to the host Stephen Colbert about the character going forward. He said that in entertainment listening meaningfully to the concerns of south Asian people in America means "in television terms listening to voices means inclusion in the writer's room."

He elaborated by saying, "I'm perfectly willing and happy to step aside, or help transition it into something new."
