HBO Max has released a compilation trailer of its upcoming shows, including the first tease of its much anticipated new series The Last of Us. It seems as though Pedro Pascal will once again be a reluctant single dad taking his child on a very dangerous road trip.

Adapted from the popular 2013 video game of the same name, The Last of Us follows Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (fellow Game of Thrones alum Bella Ramsey) — two survivors travelling across a post-apocalyptic US where a fungal infection has turned people into mindless, aggressive zombies. I won't say much more in deference to people who haven't played the game, but if the series lives up to its source material then it'll definitely be worth checking out.

HBO's short clip doesn't give much away, but the few images we do see appear in line with the type of gruff found-family trip The Last of Us fans may expect. This includes Joel apparently showing Ellie how to hold a gun, carrying her while fleeing from something, and her running while firing a gun behind her. Nick Offerman also makes an appearance as Bill, a survivalist the pair meet on their journey.

"Everybody I have cared for has either died or left me," says Ellie, giving you an idea of the grim sort of world they live in. Hopefully her new father figure Joel will be the exception.

The Last of Us will arrive on HBO Max next year.
