'House of the Dragon' Season 2, episode 5 trailer teases King Aegon's fate

So: Is King Aegon dead, or isn't he?

Episode 4 of House of the Dragon may have left that question up to interpretation, but the trailer for episode 5 gives us a few more clues. First, we see soldiers carrying what looks like a medieval stretcher back into the Red Keep. As they open this wooden crate we hear Alicent ask, "Is he alive?" The implication there, of course, is that the king isn't dead — or at least, not quite.

Later in the trailer, though, his fate seems a grimmer. There's a shot of Team Green sitting around the small council table, and Aegon's chair is empty. Overhead, a voice says, "The King does not lack for heirs."

The conclusion? King Aegon isn't quite dead when he's brought back to King's Landing, but he either dies partway through episode 5, or his condition is so bad he's unable to rule.
