Schools and offices were hit with a snag on Monday, as Zoom went down for a time across the U.S. The Late Late Show was no exception.

"I should tell you that most of this show is still put together over Zoom, including all of our writers work remotely on Zoom, which explains why I don't have a joke here," says Corden early on, shrugging cheerfully. "How was your weekend, Reg? And if you could take 45 minutes with the answer, it would really help us all out."

What follows is a long way from the traditional quickfire monologue, with Corden replacing normal jokes with silly interactions with his various crew members. And when he does crack one gag that doesn't quite land, he's quick to hit a fake laughter button on his desk.

"I had a phone call this weekend from a friend of mine, called Jonathan, who'd seen the show, right, and I think he thought he was being nice," laughs Corden. "He's called me, and he said, 'I'm really enjoying the opening of the show.' He said 'It's so brilliant,' I said, 'Ah, thanks,' he said, "It's so loose, I'm really loving it, I love it because you tell jokes and they don't work and you acknowledge it, whereas normally you just carry on.'"

Corden acts outraged at this, but everyone laughs. And Corden's friend Jonathan's is kind of right. The improvised element just makes everything way more fun.
