James Corden uses BTS to help explain just how fast coronavirus can spread

James Corden had a busy day on Monday, hosting a Late Late Show special from his garage with cameo appearances from Will Ferrell, Dua Lipa, and the cast of Dear Evan Hansen.

Oh, and BTS. They appeared via video chat to perform "Boy With Luv," and then they featured once again (albeit briefly, and in photoshop form) in Corden's explanation about the importance of social distancing measures.

In particular, Corden addressed the younger members of his audience, and any of their friends who may be saying things like, "How is it even worse than catching the flu?" by using the seven-piece boyband as a visual numbers aid.

"The seasonal flu is serious for lots and lots of people; COVID-19 is roughly 10 times more lethal," explains Corden in the clip above. "When you get the flu, two things happen: One, you get overly invested in The Bold and the Beautiful, even though you've never seen it before [...] The other thing that's going to happen, if you go out with the flu, you're going to infect, on average, 1.3 people. And those 1.3 people will infect 1.3 people. And if that happens 10 times, you will have been responsible for giving the flu to 14 people — and that's two BTSes on a couch, getting invested in The Bold and The Beautiful."

Corden goes on to emphasise that while the flu is infectious, coronavirus is very infectious.

"If you are carrying COVID-19 [...] it's thought that on average, you are likely to infect three people. Now that might not sound like much of a jump, but if those three people pass it on to three more people, and those three people pass it on to three more people, and so on and so forth, that only has to happen 10 times, and you have been responsible for infecting 59,000 people."

Sobering numbers.
