Jimmy Fallon recounts how his wife accidentally ruined his proposal

On Tuesday's episode of The Tonight Show, host Jimmy Fallon was joined by his wife — film producer Nancy Juvonen — to recount how she inadvertently thwarted his plans to propose.

Fallon had the ring, had asked Juvonen's father for permission, and had "informed" her brother of his intentions ("but your brother was cool with it too"). However, on the evening he planned to pop the question, Juvonen surprised him with reservations for very fancy New York restaurant Per Se.

"I was dying to go to Per Se," said Fallon. "But I didn't want to go to a restaurant [to propose] because what if in 30 years the restaurant changes hands, now it's a laser tag place, now it's like, 'Kids, this is where your mom and I got engaged: at the laser tag house.'"

Fallon's Tonight Show has taken a decidedly cuter and more familial bent since the coronavirus pandemic has forced him to film it from home, with his adorable kids often stealing the show.
