We know what John Oliver thinks of Donald Trump these days, but what did he think of him back before the 2016 election?

During an appearance on The Late Show on Monday, Stephen Colbert played Oliver a clip of the Last Week Tonight host on the show back in 2015, saying he "doesn't give a s**t" about Trump.

"That's a really mean thing to cut straight back to a close shot of my face there," says Oliver, staring into the camera after the clip has played. "You knew exactly what you were doing in the control booth — that wasn't nice!"

After making a joke about Trump ageing better than him in the nine years that have passed despite being president, Oliver goes on to explain his feelings now.

"The thing is, that guy — I know it doesn't look like he still exists, but emotionally he does still exist. I still don't give a s*** about him, I just know that I have to, if that makes sense," says Oliver. "I think it would be a gift to the nation if we could give ourselves the joy of not caring any more."
