John Oliver explains why Congress spends all its time raising money for Congress
Watch Next

No, John Oliver's latest Last Week Tonight deep dive doesn't focus on how money corrupts presidential candidates. (For that, Oliver said, you simply turn to "your most annoying friend's Facebook page.")

Instead, he takes a long, hard look at how and why members of Congress spend a staggering amount of time -- up to two-thirds of it -- raising money.

Spoiler: It's not pretty. Constituents hate it; even Congresspeople hate it. But "while both sides agree they hate this," Oliver said, "neither wants to unilaterally back down first." Which means, you guessed it, nothing ends up changing. Happy Monday!
