John Oliver forgave $15 million worth of medical debt on last night's Last Week Tonight, making it the largest giveaway on television history. But, of course, there was lots more to that.

Oliver thoroughly examined the issue of American debt, enlightening us on the fact that the many companies that end up purchasing ours debt cheaply -- debt buyers -- and then aggressively come back to collect it are actually very simple to start.

Oliver also discussed the dreaded "zombie debt" and saw this conversation as a golden opportunity to poke fun at Nicolas Cage, so you won't want to miss that.

But the real highlight of the show was when Oliver explained that his team formed a debt buying company, bought $15 million worth of it for "pennies on the dollar" and forgave it.
