Last week, Jon Stewart stepped up with an emotional speech to call for the full funding of the 9/11 first responders compensation fund, something which he slammed Congress for their inaction towards.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who Stewart regarded as an "impediment" in the process, appeared on Fox News to wonder why the comedian "is all bent out of shape" over the debacle. In a surprise appearance on The Late Show, Stewart hit back.

"I'm not bent out of shape, I'm fine," he said. "I'm bent out of shape for them. These are the first heroes and veterans and victims, of the great trillions of dollars War on Terror ... you think that would be enough to get Congress' attention. But apparently it's not."

On Fox News, McConnell added that Stewart was "looking for some way to take offense," and that members of Congress were too busy to hear the comedian's speech. It's an accusation Stewart did not take well.

"I feel like an asshole. I feel stupid, this was a huge misunderstanding -- I didn't know they were busy," Stewart said. "I didn't mean to interrupt them with their JOBS."

The comedian implored McConnell to meet first responders tomorrow, and get the bill passed, saying, "You could pass this as a standalone bill, tomorrow."
