Jon Stewart was back on The Daily Show desk last night, and there was plenty to unpack.

The late show host focused his attention on this week's Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where former president and Republican nominee Donald Trump appeared following an assassination attempt at the July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Stewart ran through some brutal thoughts on J.D. Vance being named Trump's vice presidential candidate, and examined Republican remarks following Saturday, but he also made time for the colossal amount of conspiracy theories running rampant on the internet after the shooting — "Great job, internet. You did it."

Importantly, Stewart reminded viewers the shooting resulted in tragedy, the death of former fire chief and Trump supporter Corey Comperatore. Fellow late show hosts Stephen Colbert and Seth Meyers also took time during their shows this week to reflect on the assassination attempt on the former president, amid a broader concern about gun control and political violence. You can watch Meyer's monologue on Late Night and Colbert's on The Late Show on YouTube.
