Sometimes, nothing gets the message across quite like a hard-hitting parody.

In the video above, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) raises awareness about the dangers of the puppy trade with a grim parody of a children's stuffed toy advert.

"Introducing the new Suzy Puppy!" squeals a gleeful voiceover narrator as the advert begins. "The pup that everyone loves!"

It's not long before things take a dark twist, though.

"Suzy comes with the deadly Parvo Virus!" continues the narrator in a similar tone. "And conjunctivitis! And diarrhea!

"And that's not all: squeeze her, and she whimpers!"

The clip ends with the little girl burying her toy, before the narrator's voice changes tone and delivers a message telling people not to unwittingly support cruel puppy farming.

"When you're buying a puppy, always remember P.U.P.S," says the narrator. "Meet the pup's parent. Is it underage? Check its papers. Check the pup for sickness."

More information about the campaign can be found on the IFAW's website.
