Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Robert De Niro unite for the highly anticipated Killers of the Flower Moon.

Based on the non-fiction book of the same name by David Grann, Killers of the Flower Moon tells the true story of the serial murders of members of the oil-wealthy Osage Nation in the 1920s. The brutal string of crimes — known as the Reign of Terror — became the subject of an investigation by the still newly-formed FBI.

Killers of the Flower Moon's trailer doesn't dive too deeply into the history of the Osage murders, but it still conjures an ominous atmosphere with portents of death, raging fires, and the foreboding mention of "hungry wolves." We see flashes of affluent rancher William Hale (De Niro), his nephew Ernest Burkhart (DiCaprio), and Ernest's Osage wife Mollie (Lily Gladstone) navigating the growing unease around them. But just how much do Hale and Burkhart really know?

Killers of the Flower Moon opens in select theaters Oct. 6, expanding Oct. 20.
