After three decades as an icon of experimental rock, Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon is finally releasing solo music under her own name, and she isn't messing around.

Gordon explained the inspiration for "Murdered Out" on YouTube -- the aesthetic of black spray paint being used to destroy corporate symbols is actually becoming part of mainstream culture now.

"Like a black hole, the supreme inward look, a culture collapsing in on itself, the outsider as an unwilling participant as the 'It' look," the musician, artist, author and fashion designer writes.

Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint drums on the track, which was produced by Justin Raisen. Her friend Emma Reeves photographed Gordon for the single's cover.
