Leonardo DiCaprio has spent the past several years on a mission, and it wasn't just to win an Oscar. DiCaprio has partnered with director Fisher Stevens for Before the Flood, a National Geographic Channel documentary about the effects of climate change and what can still be done to remedy them.

DiCaprio, motivated by the repercussions of climate change, has spent years researching sources of renewable energy and other methods of avoiding dangerous amounts of global warming. In the film, he meets with experts around the world -- everyone from scientists to politicians, including Tesla's Elon Musk and President Obama. These interview subjects help him make sense of politicians who reject the science behind climate change.

“The world is now watching, and we ask you to protect it," DiCaprio says in the trailer. "Or we, and all living things we cherish, are history."

Before The Flood will be in select theaters on Oct. 21 and aired worldwide by National Geographic on Oct. 30.
