What lies between the world and the end of it? According to the somber narration of Alaska Young (Kristine Froseth) in Hulu's Looking for Alaska trailer, suffering. So how do we escape it?

Unlike the first show teaser, which indulged in Tumblr quotes and dramatic lighting, this trailer — in addition to those things — properly introduces Miles "Pudge" Halter (Charlie Plummer) and the motley crew he finds at Culver Creek Preparatory Academy: Chip (Denny Love), Takumi (Jay Lee), and the energetic, enigmatic Alaska.

Instead of the labyrinth, Pudge focuses on the Great Perhaps, which happens to look a whole lot like booze and mischief and fried burritos and treacherous pranks. But nothing captivates him more than Alaska, her approach to life, and her palpable suffering.

All eight episodes of Looking for Alaska will stream on Hulu Oct. 18.
