Gather round your television's fire, folks, because the beloved Lore podcast will soon be spooking up your eyeballs as well as your earholes.

Since its humble beginnings in 2015 as a 30-minute deep dive into the world's most chilling folktales, the podcast, narrated by Aaron Mahnke, exploded in popularity. Aside from raking in 5 million monthly listeners on average, it's now been adapted into an original Amazon anthology series premiering on Friday, Oct. 13 on Prime Video.

The trailer makes Amazon's Lore look like just another trashy paranormal "true story" TV recreation, where victims of hauntings recount their harrowing journeys. But, if the podcast is any indication, we're in for a much spookier Halloween treat than that.

Lore is a unique hybrid series that presents meticulously-researched true life tales through a variety of mediums,” said Conrad Riggs, Head of Unscripted Amazon Originals.

What sets the concept apart from so many others like it is how Mahnke engages with the psychology behind these supernatural myths, bringing the horror way too close to home. It's as much a ghost story as it is an exploration of the horror genre's ancient origins.

You can look forward to seeing some of the greatest hits from the podcast on the show, like Unboxed, On the Farm, and The Beast Within.

Evidently, Lore's popularity just goes to prove that oral storytelling didn't die. It just found new digital homes through podcasts and streaming.
