"This was a modern love story. Boy meets girl. Boys falls in love with girl. Boy marries girl. Girl cuts off boy's penis."

The Academy Award-winning Jordan Peele is taking on horror through a new lens, re-examining the infamous real-life trial of Lorena Bobbitt, a woman accused of violently assaulting her husband, John Wayne. While a verdict in the he-said-she-said 1993 case was reached decades ago, its perplexing details and emotional narrative have not been forgotten by modern true-crime fans.

The question has always remained: Why did Bobbitt do what she did? Peele aims to answer that question once and for all.

Lorena, Peele's docuseries set to be released through Amazon Studios, offers additional context to the crime and seems to promise new interviews with both Bobbitt and Wayne. Notably, the series is poised to take a more sympathetic view of Bobbitt and the incident.

The four-part documentary, Lorena, begins streaming Feb. 15 through Prime Video.
