When Mike Boyd went shopping for an engagement ring for his girlfriend Kim, he couldn't find one that felt quite "right."
So, he decided to something a little bit unconventional. He took a jewellery class and learned how to make a diamond engagement ring entirely from scratch, all by himself. And, it turned out beautifully!
"I want to make a ring 100% by myself. Can that be done?" Boyd asked jewellery designer Scarlett Erskine. Boyd watched and listened as Erskine showed him every single step involved in the ring making process and he then applied this knowledge.
It took Boyd six hours and 16 minutes to make the diamond ring, but he said he wanted to make sure his creation would be "a ring that Kim says yes to."
And, spoiler alert: he succeeded!
