Wes Cherry is a name you're probably not familiar with, but you're definitely familiar with the addicting game he gifted to the world: Solitaire for Microsoft.

YouTube channel Great Big Story caught up with Cherry in the video above to get the full story behind one of the world's most popular free games.

Cherry developed Solitaire in the few hours of free time that he had as an intern for Microsoft in 1988. The popular time-killing card game has been a staple of all Windows version ever since, right alongside Minesweeper, FreeCell, and Hearts (even though Bill Gates himself said the game was too hard, according to Cherry).

Nowadays, Cherry owns a cidery where he makes apple cider.
