Over the course of 21 months, a Minecraft player used nothing but in-game blocks to build a complete, playable version of the classic Game Boy game Pokémon Red, bugs and all.

The creator of the project, Mr. Squishy, put his astounding creation on Reddit for everyone to download and try for themselves, and gave a little background information about the Pokémon/Minecraft crossover. He started his work back in July 2015, placing 357,000 command blocks (each of which can execute a line of code) and traversing roughly 2,800 kilometers, or about 1,800 miles, to finish the job.

"The most common question I'm asked is why I made this project," Mr. Squishy said in his Reddit post. "My answer is simple: I love pushing the boundaries of the game. Minecraft really shouldn't be able to run Pokémon Red -- it's a 3D game about building and surviving -- but the fact that it can ... [excites] me. It truly shows that if you can dream it, you can make it."

Mr. Squishy has also used this drive to recreate Pac-Man in Minecraft, a project he finished in 2015 before tackling Pokémon.
