Australian singer songwriter Missy Higgins has released an emotive track detailing the death of three-year-old Syrian boy, Aylan Kurdi, on a Turkish beach last year.

The song, titled "Oh Canada," features animation made from drawings of Syrian refugees and seeks to make a political message regarding the plight of refugees. It is believed Kurdi and his family were seeking refuge in Canada.

Higgins said the image of the young boy lying lifeless on the beach devastated her and she felt compelled to pen this tune. The profits from the song will go to the Asylum Seeker Support Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
