Despite the ongoing hellstorm of political debate surrounding Russia, North Korea, and immigration, we can't forget there's a pivotal midterm election coming up in November. It's going to take a lot to garner attention with so much going on.
Big ups to MJ Hegar, then, for capturing the eye of many with this effective ad for her campaign in the 31st Congressional District in Texas.
A former military pilot injured in the line of duty, Hegar's ad (soundtracked by a "Gimme Shelter"-esque tune) traces her life and the battles she faced after her injury, including successfully suing the Pentagon to lift their ban on women in combat. Part of her journey was the inability to get a meeting with her representative, Rep. John Carter (R), a member of the Tea Party because she wasn't a donor. Now, she's made Carter her opponent.
It's an incredibly well-shot, well-written ad that carries the viewer through Hegar's life and experiences. The political spot is full of kinetic energy and a unifying theme -- doors -- that works incredibly well in getting Hegar's message across and showing the impact she had on the armed forces.
Though Hegar still trails, there's reportedly been some movement in her direction in the polls with some speculating the ad helped Hegar gain traction. And seeing how compelling the ad is, it's easy to see why.
