With its jaunty opening music, you could be forgiven for initially thinking the Monstrous trailer is going to be a comedy. Then things take a turn.

Starring Yellowjackets standout Christina Ricci, I Know Who Killed Me director Chris Sivertson's new horror movie follows Laura, who is escaping her abusive relationship to live in a remote lakeside house with her seven-year-old son Cody, played by Santino Barnard. As you can probably guess, though, it isn't long before her son sees a "monster" outside his window and things start to go bump in the night.

Monstrous is in theatres and on demand from May 13.
