"Welcome to Jupiter." When NASA's Juno probe reached the planet Jupiter in tact Monday, it was the culmination of a risky five year journey.
The probe, which is the first to orbit Jupiter since the Galileo mission ended in 2003, completed a 35-minute rocket engine burn to make it through the huge planet's radiation belts. It was nail-biting time for NASA's scientists and engineers, who cheered and hugged as they received confirmation it had survived the trip.
If it had been the Mashable office, there might have been a little more shrieking, crying and jumping up and down. But then again, these men and women of NASA are seasoned professionals.
