NASA wins over Super Bowl geeks with longest Hail Mary pass ever

Because, yes, space geeks love sports, too, astronauts on the International Space Station decided to join in the Super Bowl fun and set up what they're calling "the longest Hail Mary pass ever."

One of the ISS crew members threw a pass the length of the interior cabin with perfect spin, which the crew humorously claimed traveled 564,664 yards. Of course, that's only true if you take into account that the ball was "technically" traveling 8,800 yards per second as the ISS orbited the Earth at 17,500 miles per hour.

Naturally, a least one science geek weighed in on the YouTube comments to admonish NASA for playing loose with stats: "You shouldn't really mix relevant relativity (velocity of the thrown football relative to ISS)." And another commenter agreed, but we can all agree that this was more fun than scientific experiment (read: good point, but please find your chill, sciencers).

Earlier in the day, NASA also engaged in a bit of pre-Super Bowl festivities by showing us (on Earth) how to make space queso, space bruschetta and space s'mores.
