YouTuber addresses cultural stereotypes about interracial relationships

Making videos on the internet comes hand in hand with receiving mean and abusive comments. And, sometimes these comments can be extremely personal.

But, YouTuber Natalie Tran was not prepared for the reactions and comments she receives about being an Asian woman in an interracial relationship. So, she decided to address the stereotypes surrounding her relationship—many of which are rooted in historic and cultural representations of Asian people.

"These comments are actually pretty common. A lot of other Asian women who date caucasian men and have some kind of presence online receive these kinds of comments as well," says Tran.

Tran interviewed other people in interracial relationships along with dating experts and academics to make sense of why people respond to her relationship in the way they do.

"This video was a weird experience because it started with my being hurt and angry, and ended up with me wanting to help and learn more," says Tran.

"If this has taught me anything, it's that we need to talk a lot more," she continues.
