An Australian reality TV show might not be the first place you'd expect to hear a message of inclusivity and acceptance, but thanks to comedian Nazeem Hussain, here we are.
The future Bill Nye Saves the World correspondent took the time to explain his family's reaction to the Lindt Cafe siege, a 2014 hostage crisis in which a gunman hastily pledged allegiance to ISIS and murdered two civilians.
Following the crisis, Hussain and his family were understandably concerned about an outpouring of Islamophobia, with his sister revealing she was scared to travel home.
"My sister texted me -- she said, 'Nazeem, I'm scared to wear the hijab home. Because I think people are going to attack me,'" Hussain said on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
But before long, the hashtag #IllRideWithYou began trending country-wide, as non-Muslims offered to travel with concerned Muslims to ensure their safety.
"[My sister] then messaged me and went, 'No, you know what? I know feel comfortable and safe knowing my fellow Australians are comfortable to stand up and support me on public transport.'" Oooft, right in the feels.
Sometimes hashtags are way more than just hashtags, you know?
