Netflix's 'Cheer' teases extreme athleticism and sky-high stakes

Last Chance U's Greg Whiteley knows a fascinating docuseries focal point when he sees one, and the Navarro Community College cheerleading team of Texas is no exception.

Cheer sees the team in the months leading up to the National Cheerleading Association's Championship in Daytona Beach, Florida, where Navarro has won 13 times under the leadership of head coach Monica Aldama. But, having lost the championship twice over the past three years, the stakes are high for Navarro to cement its status as reigning champ.

Cheer premieres on Netflix January 8.
