In 1997, a terrible flood swept through Poland, Germany, and the Czech Republic, causing billions of dollars of damage and the deaths of 114 people.

Netflix's High Water dramatises these events, focussing on the struggles of a female hydrologist, Jaśmina Tremer (Agnieszka Żulewska), who is brought in by the local authorities only to be predictably ignored as she tries to warn them about how bad things could get.

The six-episode series also stars Tomasz Schuchardt, Ireneusz Czop, Marta Nieradkiewicz, Mirosław Kropielnicki, Anna Dymna and Tomasz Kot.

High Water is available to stream on Netflix from Oct. 5.
