A land succession drama on an Australian cattle ranch where everyone's out for blood? That's the pitch for Netflix's new drama series Territory, which dropped a trailer this week.
The plot revolves around the Lawson family and the country's largest ranch, Marianne Station, where the boss ends up dead. Cue the circling family vultures. The Last of Us' Anna Torv stars alongside For All Mankind's Michael Dorman, Vikings: Valhalla's Sam Corlett, and Longmire’s Robert Taylor. And as you can see in the YouTube comments, viewers have compared the show already to Kevin Costner's Yellowstone: "Australian Yellowstone? sign me up," reads the top comment.
The series was co-created by Mystery Road's Timothy Lee with Ben Davies, and Wolf Creek's Greg McLean is directing. Produced by Easy Tiger and Ronde for Netflix, Territory was shot in locations across Australia's Northern Territory and South Australia — including Kakadu National Park and Tipperary Station — "with permission from the sites’ traditional owners," Deadline reports.
And let's get one thing clear — no matter which of the Lawsons ends up with the ranch on this particular show, Australia always was, and always will be, Aboriginal land.
