Inspired by the real-life story of a Black man who achieved samurai warrior status in 16th century Japan, Netflix's trailer for its anime series Yasuke places the legendary figure into a world of magic and monsters.

Set in an alternate feudal Japan, the trailer shows Yasuke (played by LaKeith Stanfield) fighting his way up to become a ronin, then required to guard a strange child against a series of evil (and not all human) forces.

Created by LeSean Thomas and featuring original music by Flying Lotus, the six-part series lands on Netflix on April 29.
