Nintendo's 'Ring Fit Adventure' turns exercise into an adventure game

Nintendo's strange new Switch experience has a name: Ring Fit Adventure. It looks like a lot more fun than your standard exercise game.

In this explainer video released Thursday, Nintendo goes into detail about how the Ring-Con (the big hoop thing), leg strap, and game work together. It's pretty straightforward: by sliding Joy-Con controllers into the Ring-Con and leg strap, the game can track your movements and actions and translate them into the Ring Fit Adventure game.

The game looks like a classic fantasy adventure where players control a hero that has to fight through enemies to save the land from a bodybuilder dragon. Instead of your standard monster combat, players have to perform different exercises to defeat enemies. It seems like a fun way to get a little exercise in at home.

For people who are more into the fitness side of things, Ring Fit Adventure also has quick play and minigames that allow players to focus on doing specific moves.

Ring Fit Adventure comes out for the Nintendo Switch on Oct. 18.
