Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has been awarded this year's Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to end the long standing conflict with FARC rebels. The conflict has killed more than 220,000 people over the last 52 years.
A peace deal was signed between the two sides, but to considerable shock was swiftly rejected this week following a referendum vote.
The Nobel Committee, which did not comment on why the award was not shared with FARC leader Rodrigo Londoño, said it hoped the honor would reinvigorate peace efforts and avoid another descent into violence.
