"People write me letters, I go 'Who would I think that about?'" Oprah asked herself on the set of her talk show in 1997. "Mary."

Mary Tyler Moore, who passed away on Wednesday, was a powerful role model for women in entertainment for generations. 20 years ago, Moore surprised Oprah on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and the host's emotional reaction is beautiful to watch.

"Thank you Mary for being such an inspiration to us all, all of us women in television," Oprah said.

The clip opens with Oprah discussing how much Moore inspired her to record her own Mary Tyler Moore Show opening to Oprah. When Moore saw the clip, she called a shocked Oprah on the air -- and when Oprah revisited the memory, Moore showed up on set.

"You have no idea what you've meant to me," Oprah explained.

"Yes, I think I do," Moore responded with a knowing glance at the camera.
