Mayor Pete Buttigieg may have dropped out of the 2020 presidential race, but he's got other fish to fry — namely, the late night show circuit.

The Democratic candidate filled in for Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday night, making his late night show hosting debut. Buttigieg, like Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon, performed without a studio audience due to the spread of the new coronavirus, so some "artistic" applause edits were made.

Although some moments come off as a little cheesy and campaign-y, Buttigieg is actually a pretty good sport about essentially roasting himself for 10 minutes, making quips about the little Iowa caucus app that couldn't, even gifting the crew 'Pete for President' merch "that I can't get rid of."

"Running for president was an amazing experience, the support that our campaign got was unbelievable, and I really thought we had a shot. But turns out I was about 40 years too young and 38 years too gay," he quipped.

"I'm glad that Jimmy asked me to host tonight because frankly, I've got nothing else going on. As you know I dropped out of the presidential race last week which was unfortunate, but what can I say? Some candidates know when it's time to get out of the race, and some candidates are Tulsi Gabbard." Daaaayyuuuuum.

All this before Buttigieg, a massive Star Trek fan, interviewed and battled against Sir Patrick Stewart. A big night.
