It's a shame Daniel Day-Lewis' career is (supposedly) coming to a close, but what a way to go.

Phantom Thread reunites Day-Lewis with director Paul Thomas Anderson, with whom he made There Will Be Blood. As you'd expect, the results look exquisite.

Day-Lewis plays Reynolds Woodcock, a dressmaker in 1950s London. He's a "confirmed bachelor" until he meets Alma (Vicky Krieps), a young woman whose love disrupts his life forever.

You wouldn't know it from the trailer, but word is that Phantom Thread is like a highbrow Fifty Shades of Grey. Early reports suggested that the film might be about real designer Charles James, but the new trailer reveals that Day-Lewis is, in fact, playing a fictional person created by Anderson, who is an American writer-director.

All of which adds up to one obvious conclusion: "Woodcock" is totally an on-purpose dick joke.

Phantom Thread is in theaters December 25.
