After crashing his plane somewhere in the Quebec wilderness, pilot Matt Lehtinen began vlogging his rescue efforts.
Lehtinen starts his vlog by explaining that he wants people to "learn from this experience."
"Reality's setting in that this could be a while," he told the camera. "The bugs are so bad."
Then he started a fire to send smoke up through the heavy canopy of trees. He was able to contact help with his satellite phone.
As he lit a flare to alert the rescue helicopter, the questionably cinematic music Lehtinen added to the vlog swelled. At the end of the clip, Lehtinen is airlifted out of the forest by a Royal Canadian Air Force rescue team.
According to CTV, Lehtinen's plane had trouble with its oil pressure and temperature before its engine ultimately stopped working, causing the crash. Thankfully, Lehtinen was able to successfully engage the plane's parachute for a more gentle crash landing.
One of the search and rescue techs who was involved found Lehtinen's vlog and apparently commented on the video.
"Glad you made it out of there in one piece, I was really relieved to finally hear your voice on comms!" the YouTube user said. "Well done on the video, and well done on doing what you could out there to better your outcome. Take care!"
In an update he posted a week after the rescue, he said he and his family were flying back to Quebec from Indianapolis (commercially, this time) and told his viewers that he was in the market for a new plane.
